Four football players selected to All-American Bowl Football
2009-12-01
Several Rochester-area youths endured a four-day, National Football League-style training camp at the State University College at Brockport this summer, and after thriving in the two-a-day workouts, four of those athletes will represent Rochester in the 2010 Offense-Defense All-American Bowl.
*Andrew Chilelli*, 10, of East Rochester, *Jason Goodwin*, 10, of Webster, *Dennis Swetz*, 9, of Ogden, and *Jake Sembiec*, 11, also of Ogden, impressed the coaches during the full-contact football camp and were selected by the Offense-Defense national organization for the youth national championships at the All-American Bowl.
Offense-Defense held camps all over the country this past summer, going town-to-town looking for top youth players for the All-American Bowl. Andrew, Jason, Dennis and Jake were selected from more than 4,000 participants, and will represent Rochester on the East squad during the annual East/West Bowl.
All of the selected youths who qualified for the game will earn Youth All-American honors. As part of the accomplishment, the local boys will travel to Myrtle Beach, S.C., from Dec. 28-Jan. 3.
The trip's highlight is the All-American Bowl, Jan. 2, 2010, which will pit East versus West in four championship games at the Doug Shaw complex in Myrtle Beach. Teams will be divided by age group (7/8, 9/10, 11/12 and 13/14).
At the tryout camp, youths were judged on their skills and performances in various drills. After showcasing their individual skills, athletes squared off in a competitive game before the All-American Bowl participants were announced.
